HBCU Day-One-Ready Program is a college-to-career navigation program driven by near-peer mentoring. This diversity program is designed to help you adapt to college life while building skills and growing your network.

This is a 10-week program where you are paired and mentored by an upper-class student at your college. During this 10-week program, you will participate in virtual skill-building workshops, be a part of an HBCU freshmen community, and be exposed to career opportunities as you grow your network.

The best time to apply for the HBCU Day-One-Ready Program is the summer before your freshman year of college. The program is offered during the fall and spring and each session is 10 weeks.

If you missed the fall deadline for the HBCU Day-One-Ready Program, the spring application will open in October and you should apply as soon as the application opens.

I will say it again. If you are an HBCU Freshman and you didn’t apply for the fall session of the HBCU Day-One-Ready Program, I need you to do three things for me—-get your planner out or open your Google, set a reminder for October 1, and go apply.

The most well-known programs are the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) and the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) both of these organizations offer a wide range of opportunities to black students.

They offer fellowships, internships, workshops, and scholarships to HBCU students. HBCU Day-One.Ready Program was created for freshmen who attend historically black colleges. The program provides each participant with a mentor who is an upper-class student at their college who can help them navigate their first year of college.

The HBCU Day-One-Ready Program also includes a 10-week session of skill-building workshops and networking within an HBCU freshmen community, and career development.

The HBCU Day-One-Ready Program is under the HBCU first umbrella and they have additional programs for HBCU students. They have a Near-Peer Mentor program where upper-class students are paired with incoming freshmen at their college to mentor and help their mentees adapt to college life while building skills and growing their network.

The Near-Peer Mentor program is a paid internship that is remote and open to full-time upper-class HBCU students.

It is a 5-week fall program where eligible students must commit to 2 hours per week. This program also provides mentorship and early internship identification, and the program is open to all majors. If you meet the qualifications the deadline is September 30 for the Financial Service Institute program.
